Event: Annual World Animal Day Celebration
Hosted by:
Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary |
It was perky pigs, contented cows and happy hens that greeted visitors to Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary on Sunday, and why not? It was after all World Animal Day. As hundreds of animal lovers from near and far descended upon Willowmavin's haven for rescued farmed animals threatening skies gave way to a sunny day and much fun was had by all.
"I am so proud to be an Ambassador for my animal friends" said lifelong animal lover, Edgar's Mission founder, and Australian World Animal Day Ambassador, Pam Ahern. "And on this special day, World Animal Day, to know that we are united with animal lovers around the world for this international event is just so special."
Pam created radio history on Friday as she and animal ambassadors Timmy Lamb (who is really a sheep), Ryan the cheeky baby goat, Willow the gentle Rooster and Rory Dog headed to Melbourne for a live, on air radio interview on Melbourne's number one talk radio station 3AW. Mischief and mayhem ensured listeners were delighted to hear about Pam, her work and the special animals in her care. And when asked who she preferred to spend her time with, Pam's witty reply was a timely reminder, "Well Ross, we are all a part of the animal kingdom........."

Location: NZ - Canterbury, Christchurch
Event: Animal Blessing
Hosted by: Canterbury SPCA |
The Blessing of the Animals service, celebrating St Frances of Assisi – patron saint of animals – and World Animal Day went ahead despite the unpredictable weather. Unfortunately the 'Paws on Parade' had to be cancelled. However, those who had arrived early were treated to wonderful performances by the Cathedral Brass Band (alias Addington Brass Band). The Rev Peter Beck led an entertaining service with songs, poetry, and readings by long serving SPCA member Pamela Webb and SPCA committee member Ross Blanks. The Breeze breakfast co-host Hilary Muir was our guest speaker. Although the cold day probably put many off, the church was well over half full. Dogs, a couple of goats and our guest four-legged friend, Whisky, the miniature pony turned out for the service and blessings. Fiona Maddison, Promotions Officer & AC Volunteer Co-ordinator. |
