	For every Whiskas or Pedigree product purchased throughout September until World Animal Day, 10 cents was donated to help support animal shelters in Cyprus.

	Mr George Perdikis, MP of the Green Party, took part in a tree planting and general clean-up of the sanctuary grounds. The tree planting was an initiative of the local SBA (Sovereign Base Area) police.

	Over 250 people plus approximately 80 pets took part in the Animal Blessing service held in the church square. In additon, over 800 e-mails were received from all over the world with photos of animals for inclusion in the service.

	To mark World Animal Day we held an Open Day at our shelter which is currently undergoing many improvements for the benefit of the 400 dogs and 15 - 20 cats.

	Our workshop to discuss the varying views about the relationship between man and animals was followed by a discussion about the problems surrounding stray animals and other animal-related issues in our city of Olhão.

	Our 'Animal Expo' highlighted animal welfare issues and the cruelty inflicted upon animals by humans.

	12 municipalities celebrated World Animal Day this year with events such as: free vaccination and microchip; organized walks with dogs; animal adoption campaigns; animal film screenings; several activities involving animals; mini plays about animal rights; educational campaigns against abandoning and cruelty to animals; animal blessings.

	We launched our "Alo Oscar" campaign in Bucharest! Oscar now appears on billboards throughout Bucharest encouraging acceptance and adoption of the wonderful street dogs!

	Many visitors brought their pets and enjoyed various animal-related activities and entertainment.

	Schoolchildren (aged 7) participated in an Animal Welfare Awareness Programme during which they learned about habitats, animal needs (using their pets as examples), and our attitude towards them.
