COSTA RICA Pets y más & Asociación ‘El Arca de Noé with the support of the Municipality of San José Last year, we presented to the municipality of San José the idea of creating a monument to stray dogs to help raise public awareness of their plight. We are delighted that the project was approved and a set of six street dog designs by a Costa Rican artist called Francisco Munguia were selected. Each statue measures about 1 metre high and will be erected in a pedestrianised boulevard in the centre of San José. People will be able to touch them, to take pictures with them and enjoy looking at them. We will also erect a plaque about the dogs and why they are there. We are delighted that we've received enough donations to cover the cost of making the statues and the donors names will be engraved on marble plates (well, the owner and their dogs names!). The statues will be augurated on Saturday 3rd October to ensure good media presence. There will be speeches and toasts culminating with the official unveilling. On World Animal Day itself, we are organising a huge march through the city to the statues.
