World Animal Day is celebrated around the world on October 4. It is a special day when animal lovers gather together and share the happiness and fun that animals bring into our lives. World Animal Day is time to think of all the animals that are suffering and that still need our help. The focus of this year's celebrations will be to raise awareness about the cruelty behind puppy farms and to encourage people to adopt animals rather than buy them. The SPCA will be celebrating this very important day on Sunday, October 10 at East Coast Park, Area D1 (Dalbergia Green). Get ready for a whole day of learning and fun through exhibitions, stage games, face and hand painting, pet care advice and more! You can also do your bit to help the animals by buying SPCA merchandise and other goodies on sale that day!
The SPCA is still taking in up to 600 unwanted pets and strays every month, so it is crucial that we continue to spread the message about responsible pet ownership on this day. World Animal Day is the perfect platform for this.
For programme details for the day, please log on to this site nearer the time. Alternatively, email updates@spca.org.sg to be included in the SPCA's mailing list.
Remember to keep October 10 free so you can join in our World Animal Day celebrations! We will update you soon!

Promoting Animal Welfare Global Concerns Group, United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) |
Our group works towards improving the welfare standards of animals within Singapore. We work closely with Mr Louis Ng from ACRES who is a World Animal Day Ambassador. In celebration of World Animal Day 2010 we are holding a large exhibition under the "Tent" of our school, the hub of action within the students and teaching staff. We will put on mobiles, posters, models and be showing a Powerpoint presentation on stage, with video streaming during the whole day. Also, throughout the school, Plasma Screens will be broadcasting information about World Animal Day during our event. The college has also agreed to 4th October being a Mufti Day - as a uniformed school, Mufti days are extremely popular. Students will be allowed to attend school in free dress if they make a donation with all money raised being donated to World Animal Day! Annika Park, Promoting Animal Welfare Global Concern, UWCSEA |

|
Wildlife Alliance |
We are so pleased to participate in World Animal Day. Our environmental education and outreach project, the Kouprey Express, along with 200 school children from Phnom Penh, will be painting 3 murals depicting Cambodia’s endangered wildlife and ways to protect it at the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center (PTWRC) to beautify the Center’s walls and buildings and increase public awareness of the illegal wildlife trade that has devastated much of Asia’s rich biodiversity. Animals will include iconic, endangered, and common Cambodian species, such as the Indochinese Tiger, the Asian Elephant, Gibbons, Lorises, Banteng, Sambar deer, water birds Crocodiles, most primate species, otters, Sun bears, Asiatic Black bears, and other large mammals. All animals will be painted in colors true to life, except the possibly extinct Kouprey and Rhinoceros, which will remain as outlines only. These two animals will be represented as outlines to underline the fact to visitors that extinction is forever. The mural painting will take place on Saturday, October 2, commencing at 9am at Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center, about 45km south of Phnom Penh. This is not a rally or even a protest, this is a Peaceful Worldwide Event to urge Governments to take animal abuse seriously by introducing stricter laws and more severe penalties.
We have from now until World Animal Day to collect at least 10,000 signatures in each participating country – at least this number of signatures are needed for Governments to sit up and take notice! On Sunday 3rd October, all participants are asked to hold a petition stand in their town to collect final signatures. Petition signatures will then be presented to Governments worldwide.
At the time of writing, there were already 129 cities around the globe participating in this ‘group campaign’ - We are the Animals’ Voice!
SRI LANKA: Kim - Animal SOS Sri Lanka; Chamath dasun Yahampath - Colombo, Sri Lanka.
INDIA: Chinny Krishna - The Blue Cross of India; Pintueli Gajjar – India co-ordinator; Diya – Hyderabad; Ramesh Srinivasan; Rana Ganguly – Calcutta;

|
Moonbears.org |
We are busy preparing for World Animal Day and it's going well. Last year we published a children's book called Ura's World' which is currently a best seller in Korea and Hong Kong. It's a story about the adventures of a moon bear cub called Ura. We aim to publish our second book, 'Ura's Dream' on World Animal Day and it will include the World Animal Day logo. We have taken the unusual step of writing 'Ura's Dream' in both English and Korean (one book). We are all very excited about this book! In addition, we are in talks with the media about reporting events being held in celebration of World Animal Day. Gina Moon, Found of Moonbears.org and World Animal Day Ambassador. |

| China Gets Involved |

|
World Animal Day Ambassadors |
Our outline plan for celebrating World Animal Day 2010 is to call for all local groups throughout China to organise an activity and, with the support of Animals Asia Foundation, we will sponsor the materials they need. Also we will help them organise their event. For example, attend a school to teach the children/students about animals in fun ways such as games. They can also join us to award people who do outstanding work to help animals. We will also encourage university student groups to get involved and support them with materials.
