Virtual Pet Show
ENGLAND - Bradford Hanson School I will once again be organising an event in celebration of World Animal Day. My plan for this year is a virtual pet show. I am asking staff and students to bring in pictures of their pets and there will be various categories so that we can have several winners. I am going to mount the pictures and display them in the school hall and ask the Deputy Head teacher to be the judge. Students will be charged 50p to enter and they will receive a rosette if their pet is chosen as the winner in the category. Students love to tell you about their pets so I'm sure the event will be very popular. Mrs Sue May, Examination Officer, Hanson School.

Worldwide Campaign calling for 'Stricter Laws Against Animal Abuse'
UK & IRELAND UK Participants This is not a rally or even a protest, this is a Peaceful Worldwide Event to urge Governments to take animal abuse seriously by introducing stricter laws and more severe penalties. We have from now until World Animal Day to collect at least 10,000 signatures in each participating country – at least this number of signatures are needed for Governments to sit up and take notice! On Sunday 3rd October, all participants are asked to hold a petition stand in their town to collect final signatures. Petition signatures will then be presented to Governments worldwide. At the time of writing, there were already 129 cities around the globe participating in this ‘group campaign’ - We are the Animals’ Voice! UNITED KINGDOM: Maria Daines – Cambridgeshire (International Singing Star); Laura Humphries – Wales; Bev Hill – Wales; Helen – Plymouth; Irene Barry – London; Sam Swanson – UK; Angela Ara – Manchester; Nicola Redbush Redfern – Croydon; Mary Alice Pollard - Cornwall's Voice for Animals; Karen Barrett – Birmingham; Kerry Jean Woodham-Valo – Manchester; Andy Dev Lous - Edinburgh, Scotland; Bee Thornton – London; Lisa Ellen Bolster - Poole, Dorset; Sharon Prymaka – Gloucestershire. IRELAND: Olive Harte - Greystones, Ireland, If you would like to organise a petition in your town, require further information or would like to contact someone who is already organising a petition in your country, please contact Tina Alaca who is co-ordinating this Worldwide campaign. Tina will provide you with everything you need including the petition wording for you to translate into your own language. The more people that are involved in collecting petition signatures, the louder our ‘Voice For The Animals’ will be! Email: alaca@isbank.net.tr Website: www.daugbjerg.info
Greyfriars Bobby Children's Painting Competition
SCOTLAND - Edinburgh One o'clock Gun & Time Ball Association This year we've decided to organise a Greyfriars Bobby childrens' painting competition. Entries will be sent to the Central Library, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh. We'll also hold a small ceremony at Greyfriars Bobby's memorial stone to mark the event. Could I suggest this could be done in other towns and cities to mark World Animal Day? The subject could be an animal or bird which like Bobby became well known in that region. All the best, George Robinson, One o'clock Gun & Time Ball Association.
