|
Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing |
An event that will bring native wildlife and people together in dialogue and ceremony to co-create a sustainable vision for the future. Join me, Rose De Dan, for a three-day adventure from 1st -3rd October at the Earthfire Institute in Idaho, a truly lovely and unique location. The animals that make the Earthfire Institute their home are representatives of the native wildlife that populate the Yellowstone to Yukon Wildlife Corridor, an uninterrupted pathway along which plants and animals still migrate, keeping their genes flowing and their species strong. Earthfire's 40-acre sanctuary houses over 60 animals, including wolves, grizzly and black bears, bison, lynx, mountain lions, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, badgers and other wild creatures. The Earthfire Institute is a non-profit organization offering education on how to create a different relationship with wildlife. A large percentage of the fees charged will directly benefit Earthfire and a further percentage will be donated to wildlife organizations and the planting of trees. For more information please send an email to Rose De Dan: wildkingdomreiki@earthlink.net |

| Fur Coat Drive |
| USA - Wheeling, West Virginia
|
Ohio Valley SPCA |
On World Animal Day, the newly-formed Ohio Valley SPCA in Wheeling, WV, is collecting fur coats for the Ohio Wildlife Center in Powell, OH. Why? Because animals need their fur more than we do! Wearing fur was once considered a sign of wealth and style. These days, it’s more likely to be seen as a sign of animal suffering. Many people no longer wear fur but aren’t sure what to do with that old fur coat. That’s where The Ohio Valley SPCA Fur Coat Drive comes in. These fur items will be given to the Ohio Wildlife Center, who takes care of injured or orphaned wildlife until they can be released back into their natural habitats. They cut the fur coats, stoles, and gloves down to size and give them to baby bunnies, raccoons, and other orphaned critters. The animals then use them as burrows and blankets. Fur items can be dropped off between Noon and 5pm on October 4, which is World Animal Day, at Lifesaver's store in downtown Wheeling, WV. Call 304-905-8721 for directions or additional information. Contributions for the SPCA's programs can be sent to Ohio Valley SPCA, P.O. Box 3001, Wheeling, WV 26003. |

| Rally - Animal Protection Legislation Reform |
| CANADA - Montreal, Quebec
|
Canadian Volunteers for the Protection of Animals |
In celebration of World Animal Day, we will be having a rally in Montreal on Saturday October 2, 2010. We want to educate the public regarding the abuse of all animals and the need to have our animal laws changed under the Criminal Code of Canada, as well as the application of our animal laws in Quebec. Animal welfare in Quebec is not being addressed as it should be and it is very much in jeopardy.
We want harsher penalties for animal abusers. We want to stop the cruelty to farm animals, the ABOLITION of puppy mills, gas chambers, animals used in circuses, animal testing in laboratories, all forms of the cruel massacres of our sea creatures, as well as ALL forms of animal abuse for profit. We want horses to run free once again and not to be killed.
We firmly believe that all living creatures, sentient beings, have the right to a life that is peaceful and free from the cruelty at the hands of humans. We believe that if euthanization is necessary, an animal should have nothing less than a dignified, painless death. All this will be our focus for World Animal Day.
Thank You! Carol Waterman, Canadian Volunteers for the Protection of Animals. Email: cbwaterman@videotron.ca |
| Cats and Culture Tour of Italy |
| USA & ITALY
|
Friends of Roman Cats |
Friends of Roman Cats helps feral and community cats in Italy and the Bay Area of San Francisco in the United States. We support an ever-growing number of groups in Italy that work to spay and neuter Italy's street cats. In the United States we advocate for no kill policies to be enacted so that every adoptable and treatable cat (or other companion animal) finds a home. We also help with some of the medical needs of San Francisco Bay Area's feral cats. From Oct 7th to Oct 19, Friends of Roman Cats offers a tour of Italy that focuses on some of the great Italian cat groups that work to spay, neuter and care for Italy's street cats. We feel it important to see how people are doing things to help animals in another country. Italy has been a No-Kill nation since 1991. We can see what is working, what needs improvement. Most of all we will meet dedicated individuals and the great cats they care for. The 'Cats and Culture' tour starts in Venice, then visits Padua, Florence, the Tuscan countryside, Arezzo, Siena and Rome. We will visit cats in Venice's main hospital, a Renaissance garden in Florence and cats living amid Roman ruins among other places. The tour only costs US $2,400 double occupancy. This does not include air fare, but includes lodging, transportation some meals, guides, entrance to the sites we visit. | Publication: Anthology about bears. |
| USA & Worldwide
|
Ursa Freedom Project |
Ursa Freedom Project will publish an anthology about bears in celebration of World Animal Day October 4. The aim of the Ursa Anthology is to use the tools of storytelling to transform people’s thinking so they feel a connection with bears and the wild places bears call home. Stories and art in the anthology are meant to strike, like Cupid’s arrow, the center of people’s hearts so they sense delight, surprise and love for bears, fear their loss and grieve for their injuries. The anthology also aims to develop compassion for bears, so people feel fiercely protective of bears, want the best for them, and are willing to apply themselves to change the dangerous conditions facing the world’s bears. Anyone interested in contributing to the Ursa Anthology may submit entries to donateUFP@ursafreedomproject.org. Guidelines for the anthology are posted at Ursa Freedom Project -- http://ursafreedomproject.ning.com. Acceptable submissions for the anthology include poems, song lyrics, essays, anecdotes, short stories, art and photographs. This is a worldwide invitation. |
