AIMS / MISSION STATEMENT:
 
 

Goal: KAPS is involved in rescuing and protecting abandoned animals, preventing animal abuse, improving the living conditions of all suffering animals, and protecting animals in danger of extinction.  It is our goal to realize emotional cultivation and benevolent spirit in our society through practical animal protection.

Mission: Protection of suffering animals in preference of others; Education, guidance and awareness campaigns on animal protection; Publication of leaflets and newsletters relating to animal protection and humane education; Treatment of injured animals; Sterilization, and education to encourage pet sterilization in order to reduce the stray population; number of animals such as abandoned dogs and cats; Installation of animal shelters; Maintaining partnership with animal protection organizations in foreign countries; Performance of projects requested by the government; Miscellaneous projects required for achieving the mission.

 
 
 
 
OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN:
 
 
Rescue and protection of abused animals.

2008:  Rescued 2,196 dogs, 1,838 cats and 26l wild animals
2009:  Rescued 1,714 dogs, 1,792 cats and 274 wild animals

Campaign on prohibition of eating dog meat 

Since 1991, together with our members, we have sent appeal letters requesting the government to establish a law prohibiting the eating of dogs and cats for medicinal purpose. Between 2006 and 2009 we distributed 3,100,000 pamphlets on this issue and conducted biannual awareness campaigns.

Human education and awareness activities

a. Published newsletters and four educational booklets on animal protection.
b. Distributed the booklets listed in (1) (2), & (3) below to libraries of primary schools, middle schools, high schools and colleges, and private libraries throughout Korea.

(1) For Lovely Dogs and Cats (12,000 copies)
(2) Love towards Animals (12,000 copies)
(3) What You Can Do for Animals (12,000 copies)
(4) Stories of Abandoned Animals. This book was written by Kum Sunnan, President of KAPS, and published in July 2004.  3,320 copies were donated to libraries of primary schools, middle schools and high schools located in 10 cities in Korea.

Sterilization Campaign

(a) Published and distributed 24,000 copies of guidebook and posters promoting the benefits of pet sterilization.

(b) Conducted biannual sterilization campaign.

(c) Supported sterilization for pets owned by low-income families.
