AIMS / MISSION STATEMENT:

To put a stop to the misery of homeless cats and dogs by controlling the overpopulation through an intensive sterilization program. Spay Panama is not a shelter but promotes the adoption of homeless animals.

OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN:

Spay/Panama is a self-funded, non-profit organisation in the Republic of Panama. It began in 2001, inspired by the SPAY/USA model that promotes spay/neuter as the most effective method to put a stop to the misery and unnecessary death of homeless animals.  We work with the Panamanian authorities and the Veterinary School of the University of Panama.

ACHIEVEMENTS:  Spay/Panama have conducted sterilization projects from coast-to-coast (San Blas in the Atlantic to Taboga Island in the Pacific), and from border-to-border (Bocas Del Toro in the West to Darien in the East).  The number of sterilizations performed has increased steadily as follows:

Spay Day International sterilization campaign held on February 28, 2010, together with the Health Ministry and the organization Los Angeles de los Animales.  170 animals were sterilized in one day.

Come join us in October 2010 for World Animal Day

If you volunteer with Spay/Panama, we provide airport transportation, lodging, meals and laundry in exchange for a donation of surgical supplies (sutures, needles, antibiotics, flea and tick medication, etc.).

You will have to share your space with some friendly rescued animals, including our newest member, Lolita, a cat who lost a kidney, and Rancho the dog who was rescued after a mean person hit him with a machete.
