MISSION STATEMENT:
 
 

To promote community respect for animals and the environment.

 
 
AIMS:
 
 
  • To create awareness of animal welfare issues amongst the Zanzibar community through various activities such as Humane Education and World Animal Day;
  • To produce, promote and distribute literature and materials, teaching manuals, guide books and reading materials to assist in humane education provision by reaching out to the wider Zanzibar community.
  • To communicate and disseminate information on animal welfare and environmental protection issues in Zanzibar through radio and television programmes, videos, posters, workshops, books, newsletters, magazines, newspapers, songs and any other medium.
  • To collaborate with the government through legally established institutions in protecting, conserving and educating citizens on the importance of environmental conservation and animals welfare issues.
  • To participate in regional and international programmes and campaigns in support of Animal Welfare and environmental issues such as giving support to the Petition for the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW).
  • To advise the government and its institutions on the issues concerning policy formulation, legal framework and other matters related thereto, in order to protect Zanzibar’s flora and fauna.
  • To act as a center of provision of Vaccination, Treatment, Experiment, and Counseling services to the society in need.
  • To carry out evaluation activities to ensure that the implementation process reaches the recognized standards.
 
 
 
 
OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN:
 
 

Our recent activities include:

  • Two free rural animals clinics treating more than 3500 animals.
  • Participation in the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) where school children are given the opportunity to learn more about the welfare of animals and environmental issues.
  • Regular participation in the 'cleaning-up' of the local environment where there are hidden dangers for stray animals. For example: a damp area where there is a lot of scrap plastic.
 
     
  Students learn how to care for cattle during a free rural animal health clinic held at Vitongoji Pemba during the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF).   Students participating in a humane education programme during the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF).  
     
  Students enjoy meeting giant tortoise during a field trip to Prison Island, Zanzibar, after completing a humane education programme.   See caption for image above left.
