World Animal Day:

Tanzania marked World Animal Day in 2007 with success and through this website, the country's efforts in upholding Animal Welfare were captured.

A World Animal Day Roundup report covers Tanzania amongst other African countries that included South Africa, Morocco, Kenya, Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a move to popularize World Animal Day, an initiative was recently launched to identify WAD Ambassadors amongst people who had shown interest and dedication in Animal Welfare matters in their countries as reported through the WAD Roundup Report.

I Dr Mohammed Msigara Bahari, who was until then the Director responsible for Animal Welfare, was requested to serve as the WAD Ambassador for Tanzania and accepted. As I tried to mobilize the last 2007 World Animal Day celebrations in Tanzania with the financial, human and moral support from the WSPA Africa Region Office, I shall do the same for 2008 and hope that events will be held throughout the country.

I am appealing to all animal lovers, animal welfarists, and animal capacity (sports, security, and work/drought power) users to put in their schedule for October 2008 to participate actively in the World Animal Day (4th) and Week (4th - 11th or 1st – 7th October).

World Animal Day is celebrated to honour the contribution of the animals to human life in all its forms from medical science to sports, work and food.
