AIMS / MISSION STATEMENT:

Ryan founded the pet publishing company K9 Media Ltd in 2000. He has since launched two pet magazines, K9 Magazine and Pet Friendly Magazine but his most recent ventures have been very much animal welfare related. He launched the UK dog adoption website www.dogsblog.com in 2007, the site has since rehomed over 2,000 dogs from the UK animal shelter system. He then went on to found the Pet Owners Parliament, an organisation designed to give a positive voice to pets and their owners. The Pet Owners Parliament is an independent movement that enables people to have their say on any animal welfare issue that concerns them. The organisation then moves to lobby government and legislators to take on board the views of people who are passionate about animal welfare issues.

The Pet Owners Parliament is truly democratic, members run the organisation and members make all the big decisions. The organisation is administered and managed by volunteers. Nobody draws a salary or expenses from the organisation. The organisation has a management board and a policy advisory group. Both of which are bound by the decisions and will of the membership.

OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN:

DogsBlog.com and National Dog Adoption Month are both designed to educate the public as to the many benefits of adopting a dog. Both ventures have been successful in promoting a positive message about dogs in shelters and they encourage people away from the outdated ideas regarding rescue dogs somehow being 'inferior' to others.

The Pet Owners Parliament enables to have a real say on any animal welfare issue they are concerned about. The organisation is behind new initatives such as DDAWatch (an off-shoot service designed to raise awareness about the UK's highly controversial Dangerous Dogs Act and breed specific legislation) as well as enabling members to vote on proposals to instigate initatives against puppy farming, animal cruelty and many other domestic pet related issues.
