Bright ideas!

Here are some of the brilliant ideas you have sent us for things to do for World Animal Day. If you want to see your bright idea on this page, email us by clicking here.

Maybe hold sponsored pet shows and from all the people who show their pets they are sponsered and then the money could be collected and taken to an animal/wildlife park or charity.

Laura

A sponsored pet show sounds like it could be a lot of fun. It would be easy to organise if you stuck to small caged animals like hamsters, gerbils and mice. Dogs are easy to show as well, as long as they get on OK with other dogs! You could have a lot of fun thinking of show classes - prettiest markings, brightest eyes, and so on. If you go ahead with your pet show, Laura, don't forget to send in pics to go on the website!

collect tinned cat and dog food as well as toys and give them to an animal centre

Tom Ram

Great idea, Tom. Animal shelters are always glad of donations like this.

It would be cool to start a pet club with your mates.

Nancy

That would be cool, Nancy. You could make toys for your pets, take your dogs out for walks together, find out about unusual pets. Let us know if you have any other ideas.

Lucy and me are starting a dog washing service and we'll give the money to the RSPCA

Ellie

Don't forget to wear waterproofs or old clothes! This sounds like it will be really good fun, will help out dog-owners and will be good for your chosen charity too.

I would like to organize an event for world animal day, i'm not sure what to do yet but I want to know where I can send the money to afterwards and where can I get stickers and badges and things like that?

Emma Carroll

First of all you need to decide what animal charity you want to support. Perhaps if you have a local animal shelter, you could do something for them - quite often small shelters are very grateful for any support you can give them. Or you might like to support a larger national organisation - you should be able to find their details on the internet or in your phone directory.

Once you have chosen your charity, let them know that you want to do some fundraising, and let them know it's for World Animal Day. They will tell you what is the best way of sending in any money raised. If you decide to do something for a local animal shelter, you could try asking friends, family and neighbours to donate a tin of dog or cat food, or some dried food, blankets or toys, then make up a large gift box for the shelter. You could then contact your local newspaper and ask them to come along and report on your official handover of your gift to the shelter on October 4.

Or if you want to do something for a big charity, you could maybe do some kind of sponsored event. There's a downloadable sponsor form template in the Resources section of the WAD website.

But whatever you do, Emma, make sure your chosen charity knows about it and tell them that it's for World Animal Day. It would be best if you also let your parents or your school know what you are planning, as they might be able to help out. At present, there aren't any badges and stickers available for WAD. A lot of people have been making their own by copying the logo off the website. Perhaps you could do this, or make up your own designs.

I plan to wear my Animal Haven (a low kill animal shelter i volunteer at) Volunteer Shirt to school on October 4th, I am going to Animal Haven tommorrow and will pick up Animal Haven Volunteer information, then keep 4-5 of those in my binder then when people ask me about it I can say "Here's how" and get the form to them! Then me and my friends will have a Treat/Toy sale for Animal Haven, at the dog park, and between 5-7 when joggers are out!

Lauren S and Friends

Lauren, that is absolutely brilliant! If only there were more people like you! I am sure Animal Haven will be thrilled to bits at your plans. Don't forget to let us know how you get on. But remember to take care when talking to people in the park and make sure you all stick together. If you want to write a few words about your Treat/Toy sale afterwards and maybe send in a photo, we'd love to put it on the WAD website.

How about an animal fancy dress at your school. Like everybody pays £1 to dress up as an animal to their school and then donate the money to RSPCA!

Jess

We love this idea, Jess! Why not have a chat to some of your teachers, particularly any that you know are animal-lovers, and see if you can make this happen. Maybe classes could do different projects on animals, such as farm animals, animals in stories, pet animals - there's all sorts of things you could do! Let us know how you get on.
