Animal Friends of Kosovo (AFKosovo) is a registered NGO in Kosovo and was established in 2011 by a group of Kosovar and International animal welfare supporters. All the founder members have extensive animal welfare experience in Kosovo and other European countries. The mission of AFKosovo is to improve animal welfare in Kosovo and reduce the population of stray animals in humane ways. Over the past six months, AFKosovo has been actively involved in persuading the municipality of Prishtina to stop the shooting of street dogs and adopt a CNVR (Capture, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release) programme. This campaign was a great success and the municipality have now agreed to end the shooting and to adopt a CNVR programme. The success of the campaign is due largely to the extensive awareness raising that the organisation carried out through different media including interviews, leaflet distribution, social media networks, petition and culminating in a protest march on 10th July.
