GIULIA MALERBI
Giulia Malerbi is the Head of Global Policy at Aquatic Life Institute, where she works to improve the welfare of aquatic animals in food systems through policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and legislative initiatives. She advises policymakers, NGOs, and corporate actors on integrating aquatic animal welfare into international food system reforms and environmental sustainability efforts.
With a background in animal welfare science, ethics, and law, Giulia has extensive experience advocating for both farmed and wild-caught animals. Before focusing on aquatic life, she played a key role in legislative and corporate campaigns to improve welfare standards for land-based farmed animals, working alongside industry stakeholders and policymakers to drive meaningful, systemic change.
She has been actively involved in global policy discussions, including UN consultations and international coalition efforts, helping to strengthen protections for animals across different sectors. As a World Animal Day Ambassador, she is committed to raising awareness about the welfare challenges animals face in food systems while advocating for stronger legal protections in Italy and beyond.
