Adopt a Pet, Save a Life! Poster-Making Campaign for Kids

WonderfullyMadeKids Homeschool invites you to celebrate World Animal Day by joining us in making pet adoption posters for rescue animals to help them find their forever homes. We will be using Canva and we will be providing a tutorial as well as template links to get kids started. The finished posters are to be shared on social media. Our event goals are as follows:

  • To empower students to use Canva as a tool to express themselves and be heard
  • To inspire children to be a voice for the animals
  • To raise awareness about animal welfare
  • To find good homes for the adoptable animals through increased attention

You can visit our website at https://wonderfullymadekids.com/2021/09/25/adopt-a-pet-save-a-life/ for more details.

UPDATE: We’ve partnered with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and we’ll be featuring their adoptable pets in their shelter in our poster-making activity. We’ll be updating this event page as the project progresses. The post for this event can be viewed here: https://wonderfullymadekids.com/2021/10/04/world-animal-day-event-with-paws/

Timeline of Events:

September 18, 2021

We recorded a tutorial video with our 13-year old daughter on the basics of using Canva by showing how she made a pet adoption poster. https://youtu.be/Ul4_PCEA3TY

September 23, 2021

We sent a proposal to PAWS to make adoption posters for their adoptable animals in the shelter as an activity that our homeschoolers can do for World Animal Day.

September 25, 2021

We registered our event with the World Animal Day website.

September 27, 2021

PAWS sent an email accepting to partner with us in this event. We immediately started inviting people to join while preparing the templates that the kids were going to use to make their posters.

September 28, 2021

We made another tutorial video on how to make an animated pet adoption poster with our 6-year old son: https://youtu.be/DwqVvBAvu-8

September 29, 2021

The templates were ready and some of the kids who registered started making their posters. The kids were invited to the Canva class giving them access to Canva for Education and the templates to start working on their posters.

October 1, 2021

The deadline for submission was moved up, and the kids worked hard on their posters. Feedback was given as timely as possible through the comments and review features of Canva for Education.

October 2, 2021

The final video tutorial was released. It records the design process of our 9-year old son as he makes a stop-motion animation poster for a cat named Loro. https://youtu.be/dSFzSE3VRE4

The posters were submitted to PAWS for collating and for scheduling the post on World Animal Day.

October 4, 2021

PAWS posted a video of the kids’ artworks on their Facebook page. Link can be found here: https://fb.watch/8qullnW3IC/

The post is now being shared and it is our hope that through this event, many of the animals will find loving families to call their very own. We also hope that the kids who joined the event and those who will see it will be encouraged to engage in more activities that promote kindness to animals and responsible pet ownership.

Thank you to PAWS and to Canva for giving the gift of Canva for Education to us homeschoolers.

To God be all the glory!
