Animal Welfare Symposium
On the 4th of October 2011, the Animal Welfare Department of the Belgian Federal Public Service Public Health will organise a symposium to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Belgian Animal Welfare Law. In the morning a variety of speakers will elaborate on their experiences with 25 years of Animal Welfare Law. The next presentations will focus on the role of animals in society and will answer the question if the way people look at animals has changed over time. This will be followed by a presentation on the evolution of the role of animal welfare organisations. The afternoon will look to the future with a series of debates on current topics concerning different aspects of animal welfare: namely companion animals, farm animals, laboratory animals and exotic animals. The symposium will be held in the Belgian Parliament, presentations will be in Dutch and French (with simultaneous translation in both languages). Karlien De Paepe.
