Annual Pet Blessing: Greyfriars Kirk
Greyfriars Kirk’ annual Pet Blessing service returns at 3pm on Sunday 05 October. Greyfriars are continuing their partnership with Edinburgh Interfaith Association for a third year to expand the ceremony to include representatives from all faiths and none, as well as fundraising for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. This service follows the ancient tradition where farmers and others would give thanks for their beasts of burden following the autumn harvest.
This service at Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh’s Old Town welcomes Edinburgh locals with their pets. In 2023, a full-grown horse attended the service, surprising and delighting the participants.
