Celebrating World Animal Day at SPANA Jordan

As we do every year we celebrated World Animal Day in our educational center in Jordan.

World Animal Day

4/10/2016

SPANA-JORDAN

150 school children aged between 5 and 12 attended the SPANA education centre from 5 schools in Amman to join in with the World Animal Day activities. We were lucky that Princess Sana Asam visited the centre to share our day. We ran five activites including a treasure hunt where children had to groom and handle the centre’s donkeys, sheep and rabbits prior to finding a map to show them where the treasure was. The race where children had to jump like rabbits, slither like a snake and complete the race running with an egg and spoon was a particular highlight. The day was topped off with a tug of war, face painting and Jordanian singing and dancing around the centre’s fountain.

A local partner organisation, Innovation for Creativity Development Association ran a photography competition on the theme of animal welfare with fantastic entries from children of all ages, which was judged by the Princess.

The day provided these children who take part in SPANA’s animal clubs another chance to interact with live animals, learn about habitats and ecology and nurture the empathy they learn during their after school activities. The celebrations were made possible with help of 25 volunteer veterinary students from the Jordan University of Science and Technology who helped coordinate the activities and generate masses of enthusiasm from the children. Overall a really successful day and many thanks to everyone involved!
