Great or small love them all – Market stall to end the cruelty of live export for all animals
Townsville Against Live Export Inc. (TALE) is a group of Townsville residents who believe that a kinder world is possible. TALE will be holding a market stall at the Strand Night Markets on Friday 6th October 2023 to mark World Animal Day 2023 and raise awareness of the cruelty of the live export trade. In 2022 over a million animals were exported live from Australia, including 61,653 cattle from the Port of Townsville. At our stall we will have information about the animal welfare issues and environmental impact of this cruel trade, along with a petition calling for an end to the trade and postcards addressed to the PM calling for Australia to end all live animal exports. The current Labor government has given a commitment to phase out the live export of sheep, but supports continuing to export buffalo, cattle and goats for slaughter offshore in countries where the animals are at risk of experiencing cruel handling and slaughter methods that would be illegal in Australia.
