Monarch Butterfly Tagging for Fall Migration
Monarch butterfly populations have been declining at an alarming rate. Their numbers are making them close to the endangered species list. Every year their numbers are being examined to determine if they should be placed on this list.
Monarch tagging is being conducted by Monarch Watch to give an idea how many monarchs have migrated North America and Canada to Mexico.
These numbers give experts an idea what kind of year the monarch will have in the following year.
I have been and will be tagging monarchs both wild and ones I’ve reared during September and October. Each tag has a specific number on it.
We find out if our monarchs were found by the volunteers in Mexico.
Monarchs need our help before their numbers dip close to extinction.
