Sarawak Biodiversity Evening
In conjunction with World Animal Day on the 4th October, the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation, UNIMAS, is organizing the Sarawak Biodiversity Evening to showcase the rich and unique flora and fauna of Sarawak and beyond.
This will be a half-day event, beginning at 2 PM and ending at 8.30 PM. The programme will comprise a series of workshops on essential field skills (including boat surveys and boating, plant identification, ways to get rid of snake phobias, first aid for snake- and dog-bites, sound recording and photography and image appreciation), followed by speed-talks on popular topics. In parallel will be several exhibitions (including one showcasing biodiversity art by local artists, a series of giant, customised maps of the world showing where the world’s more well-known animals live). The highlight of the event will be an exhibition of the world’s largest amphibian stamp exhibition, which will be an official event of the Guinness World Records.
We will have World Wide Fund for Nature, Malaysian Nature Society, Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Pos Malaysia, etc, as exhibitors, who will be showcasing their work on wildlife conservation and animal welfare, and in related fields. The event is free and open to all members of the public, and we shall target students, naturalists, philatelists, tourists, tour guides, as well as the general public, who would benefit for the workshops and talks.
