Sri Lanka celebrates World Animal Day by giving a sneak peek to animal caring to children
The Department of Zoological Gardens will open the doors of Pinnawala Zoo on 4th October to school children of the area to give them a hands-on experience about animal caring. At present the zoo is involved in ex situ conservation and breeding of some endangered animals. Pangolins, leopards and some endemic fish are selected to be introduced to visiting children.
They will see how they are been fed, nursed and will learn about their behaviour, ecology, threats to survival, and very importantly, how these animals are taken care at the facility. Of course, children will get the opportunity to support the staff in daily routine work on that day.
A quiz followed by prizes will culminate the celebrations.
