The Day of the Dog – Kukur Tihar
Everyone at Community Action Nepal and Hutton in the Forest would like to extend a warm invitation to you all to come along to join us for the annual celebration of Kukur Tihar, that special festival which is celebrated in Nepal, and now here in the UK, when man’s best friend is recognised with love and affection – and a special walk.
This Festival has been celebrated in Cumbria since 2011 and this year we return to Hutton in the Forest, by kind invitation of Lady Inglewood, where we hope you will join us and help raise funds not only for Community Action Nepal but also for the late Jan Salter’s Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre and Celia Washington’s Kathmandu Contemporary Arts Centre.
All dogs will be garlanded according to Hindu tradition, and their accompanying master or mistress will be given a Buddhist prayer scarf [kata] and a glass of wine. We will then walk through the park to St. James’ Church where the dogs will be given a Christian blessing before returning to Hutton in the Forest around 4:30 pm.
A suggested donation of £12.00 online or £15.00 on the day [your donation is for 1 dog bringing 2 people and for each additional dog/person in the group we suggest £5.00].
