Animals are AWESOME – celebrating WORLD ANIMAL DAY!

Each and every one of us can make a difference to animals. World Animal Day is celebrated annually all over the world, and aims to raise the status of animals in order to improve their welfare standards.

FOUR PAWS South Africa will be marking the day by partaking in Ottery Library’s 2018 October School Holiday Program on Thursday, 4 October. A fun morning of educational and awareness activities is planned with games, an educational talk on animal welfare and crafts to name but a few.

FOUR PAWS South Africa is excited to share the day with the children of Ottery –  a suburb in Cape Town, South Africa, on the edge of the Southern Suburbs. Sharon Roman, librarian at Ottery Library, is very excited about the program and says the library aims to keep the children in their area busy in the holidays and off the streets, as a lot of them come from homes where parents are not able to take them on outings in the holidays, and they are left home alone and to their own devices. In an area which struggles with substance abuse, poverty and gangsterism we hope to be a breath of fresh air and educate the children in a fun and informative manner. We are encouraging their curiousity by trying to bring new and exciting ways of learning about animals, encouraging in them a love for animals, and relaying the message that animals are sentient beings just like us.

FOUR PAWS South Africa encourages other animal welfare organizations, community groups, youth and children’s clubs, businesses and individuals to organize their own events in celebration of World Animal Day.

Our World Animal Day 2018 celebrations were a huge success! FOUR PAWS South Africa celebrated World Animal Day 2018 by partaking in Ottery Library’s October 2018 School Holiday Program on Thursday, 4 October. We had so much fun – educational and awareness activities, games, an educational talk on animal welfare and the meaning of World Animal Day and animal masks!

The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves, everyone was happy with the quality work done by FOUR PAWS and appreciated everything very much. The gift boxes were a hit, the sweets and fruit were a hit, the talk was a hit, the images of animals and making animal masks was a hit, they were fascinated by World Animal Day and the Five Freedoms – all went well!
