Wojtek
Supported by the trustees of the Wojtek Memorial Fund, the One o’Clock Gun Association will be holding a ceremony on October 4th at the statue of Wojtek which stands in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. The Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh will attend the ceremony. www.piazzi.co.uk
Wojtek – dubbed the “Soldier Bear” – was adopted by Polish troops during World War II and helped them carry ammunition at the Battle of Monte Cassino. After the war he lived at Hutton in Berwickshire, Scotland, before ending his days in Edinburgh Zoo in 1963.
