World Animal Day 2017
On Monday 2nd October The University of The Gambia and Gambia College Animal Advocates Association, supported by The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust, held a march to celebrate World Animal Day 2017.
The students invited the Livestock Services Department, The Wildlife Department, The Gambia Livestock Marketing Department The Livestock Owners Association and Gambicats charity who all attended to give their support. The march was followed by speeches and some drama by students and school children which demonstrated a real understanding of the issues involved in Animal Welfare.
A local restaurant owner Samba Trawally kindly lent his restaurant for the event and cooked a delicious meal for the 250 marchers.
Animal Welfare is becoming a popular topic of conversation in The Gambia and we are very hopeful that the inspiring efforts of the Animal Advocates Association will spread across the country to help all animals.
We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the fast growing Animal Advocates Association for the tremendous efforts they went to in order to make this a very successful day.

The even was attended by two TV stations, a radio station and several newspapers and has really raised the profile of Animal Welfare in The Gambia. Even before the end of the day there were people asking to join the Animal Advocates Association.
Thanks to this inspiring group of young people animal welfare is well and truly on the agenda in The Gambia and we have a lot to look forward to.
