World Animal Day 2019 Awards Serbia – Priznanja ambasadora Svetskog Dana Životinja za istaknute javne ličnosti

SRPSKI

Franje Asiškog, sveca zaštitnika životinja i životne sredine.

We would like to inform you about the forthcoming celebration of this holiday of animals in our country, as well as the recognition that has been traditionally awarded for the fifth consecutive year to prominent individuals and institutions who show great interest and commitment to promoting the welfare and protection of animals in our country. The winner of this year’s award is Gorica Popovic, a well-known actress and great animal lover. She has earned this recognition for her numerous efforts to protect pets and promote their well-being, through media appearances, statements and concrete actions in which she emphasized the importance of the role of animals, but of the entire wildlife and nature.

World Animal Day has been celebrated on 4 October since 1931. It started in Florence at an ecology convention. At that time this day was celebrated as St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. Over time, it has lost its religious character and has long been a holiday for all animal lovers and protectors, regardless of religion or nation. These days, all animal welfare organizations and all animal shelters in the world are opening their doors for visitors, organizing information and educational booths, workshops, various types of education, group gatherings, donation gathering and various other activities. World Animal Day Network brings together all the organizations celebrating this day to do the best and most effective protection for animals and the promotion of their well-being. The celebration of this day will be organized in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Pancevo and other cities across the country, where various activities and events will be organized in schools, kindergartens, animal welfare societies and other institutions and businesses.

Every year, we strive to draw particular attention to a particular area of animal protection, and this year this is a problem of over-exploitation of natural resources, primarily in order to produce additional plant crops that need to be fed to farm animals used in human consumption. This is exactly why this year saw unprecedented wildfires in the Amazon, where millions of square kilometers of forests and billions of animals were burned together – they represented the priceless treasure of our planet.
