World Animal Day 2020 – Sri Lanka – Inspiring the next generation
World Animal Day Ambassador Otara Gunewardene created awareness for the importance of animal welfare on her social media pages and also in the local news media. With a following of close to 2 million people, a large audience was reached to celebrate this day. Unfortunately, events were not possible due to the current Covid-19 situation.
A small gathering is also organized by Animal Welfare Advocates on the 4th of October to celebrate and appreciate those who work day in and out to look after our street animals in their own way.

The World Animal Day celebration organized on the 4th of October ended on a positive note where many people both young and old, who volunteer to feed, rescue and look after animals on a daily basis were appreciated for their compassion and kindness. They are the influencers of change who work towards making a better life for all animals in Sri Lanka. Otara Gunewardene, Sri Lanka’s World Animal Day Ambassador also addressed the audience on the importance of being the voice for the voiceless and advocates of change. It all begins with each one of us who care enough to make a difference.
