Details: This is a FREE, Public Event. We would like to welcome you to come out and volunteer by helping with the daily chores for a couple of hours. We currently have 52 equine; 49 horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 1 hinny, 2 sheep, 5 goats, 2 farm pigs, and 4 potbellied pigs that are all permanent residents. We are Broward County Florida’s oldest and largest horse rescue and only sanctuary. Families are welcome! Bring your camera just in case you make a new 4 legged friend! We are a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization that has been in business for almost 35 years. The daily chores include; stall cleaning, watering, grooming, braiding, feeding and anything else needed. You will quickly see the work and dedication it takes to have a horse and what it takes to operate a rescue that does sanctuary. You might even get a glimpse of something you would like to do with your spare time long term. Our volunteers are the backbone of the organization and we are always looking for more helping hands. If you come out, you will help the horses when you socialize and interact with them. We look forward to meeting you!

If you cannot or do not want to volunteer, perhaps you might like to make a donation toward the unsponsored horses in honor of World Animal Day? If you would like to make a donation of any size please go to F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Facebook Donation Site

World Animal Day is something F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Celebrates every year! We love to have the community come out, meet the horses, and other farm animals under our care. We tell them each animals story of how they ended up with us. Each year we have new people and previous visitors come out to help with the daily chores so they can see exactly what it takes to properly care for a horse. Many people do not realize what is involved every day and they quickly learn whether horse ownership is for them or not. We try to educate the community about the cost, time, dedication and the responsibilities of ownership BEFORE they go and adopt or purchase a horse. We believe showing people what it takes day in and day out, and actually have them helping for just a few hours will help them make a better informed decision about horse ownership and if it is right for their family. Making better decisions will help keep the turn over of horses down, but ownership responsibility is what people really need to understand, and a horse can live for 30 years or more. That is a HUGE committment and it should not be taken lightly. While many people “always wanted a horses”, or “their child wants a horse for Christmas”, it is not something you should jump into or take lightly. We can help people understand these issues and give them alternative options like volunteering, leasing or simply taking lessons.
