World Animal Day – It’s time to End the Cruel Live Animal Export Trade
To mark World Animal Day members and supporters of TALE- Townsville Against Live Export will be holding a peaceful gathering in Strand Park, Townsville (Stuart Street end) from 5pm -6pm on Thursday 4 October 2018 to call for an end to the cruel live cattle export trade from our city. Please come and join us if you agree that the trade is cruel and needs to end. In the 2017 calendar year 203,862 cattle were exported from the Port of Townsville and there are plans to increase this, possibly to one million cattle each year.

To mark World Animal Day a small group of Townsville residents concerned about the cruelty that is the live export trade from our city gathered on the Strand to raise awareness of this important animal welfare issue. A number of signatures were collected on petitions calling for an end to the live animal export trade. Sadly our current government supports this cruel trade and the 45th live export ship to visit Townsville this year, the Jawan, left the Port of Townsville on World Animal Day loaded with thousands of cattle destined for slaughter in Indonesia after spending 11 days at sea.
