HAPPY WORLD ANIMAL DAY!

Horses, cats, dogs, pigs, elephants… and even the pink fairy armadillo. The world wouldn’t be the same without them. October 4 is the day to show how we can ALL make a difference to animals.

HOW WILL YOU CELEBRATE WORLD ANIMAL DAY TODAY – IT ISN’T TOO LATE TO TAKE PART?

Although many World Animal Day events are scheduled for October 4, activities take place throughout the whole month. Register and organise a small event in aid of a local rescue centre or your favourite animal charity. Please just make the date clear in your advertising.

To help you decide how you will help improve the lives of animals, here are just a few ideas to start you thinking that will not require much preparation…

De-clutter and hold a car boot sale or auction

• The proceeds could go to your favourite animal welfare charity or to theWorld Animal Day Grant Winner in Kurdistan.
• Or you could hold a promises auction, with individuals offering their services as car-washers or coffee/tea servers to the highest bidder!

Grab your family or friends and go litter-picking

• Sensitive animal feet are frequently cut on broken glass, hedgehogs get their heads stuck in discarded plastic cups.
• Dogs can become ill by eating fast food packaging.

• Plastic drink can holders are a particular menace to all kinds of birds and animals.

(If you choose to organise a litter-pick, keep a careful eye on children, remember to wear gloves and, above all, avoid discarded needles or any other kind of medical waste.)

Share, share, share on social media

• World Animal Day continues to grow every year. However, there are many animal welfare issues that still don’t receive enough attention. Research an issue that concerns you and help raise awareness via your social media channels, including Facebook.
• Many people still aren’t aware of World Animal Day’s existence. YOU can help spread the word by sharing #WorldAnimalDay on Twitter and Instagram.

Make a donation

• Make a donation to World Animal Day (or your favourite animal welfare charity) and help us raise the status of animals worldwide.
