Save Animals, Save the Planet!

Annually on October 4, people across the world unite for World Animal Day, raising awareness and taking action for animals. In recent years, we have run a theme competition that aims to find a theme that both inspires action and reflects our mission – to create a kinder world for animals.

Last year, we asked you to share your ideas for this year’s theme, and you did not disappoint! There were some brilliant suggestions, and, after much deliberation, we are thrilled to announce the official theme for World Animal Day 2025:

Save Animals, Save the Planet!

Congratulations to Samar from Egypt for submitting this wonderful theme! As a token of appreciation, Samar will receive a World Animal Day logo pin.

What does this theme mean?

This year’s theme reminds us of the connection between animal welfare and the health of our planet. From biodiversity loss and habitat destruction to industrial farming and pollution, the ways we treat animals have a direct impact on the environment – and vice versa.

The conservation of keystone species inadvertently leads to the preservation of diverse habitats around them, meaning that the safeguarding of animals such as tigers or wolves can actually lead to their corner of the Earth being protected from harm.

When we stand up against wildlife crime, fight against the cruelty of factory farming, and ensure the well-being of our beloved pets, we contribute to a more sustainable and compassionate world.

How can YOU take action?

There are endless ways to get involved in World Animal Day this year! Whether you are an individual, a community group, or an organisation, we encourage you to make a difference. Here’s some ideas to get you started:

  • Organise a fundraising event for your local animal rescue centre or sanctuary
  • Take part in a litter clean-up to protect wildlife from harmful waste
  • Spread the word by sharing information about World Animal Day and this year’s theme on your social platforms. Use the hashtag #WorldAnimalDay2025
  • Support ethical tourism companies when you’re planning your holiday this year
  • Commit to vegan or vegetarian meals for the month of October
Need some more inspiration?

Last year, the Naturewatch Foundation team supported a local rescue centre by ‘donating a dinner’ to homeless animals, encouraging others to do the same. Simple acts like these can have a big impact!

If you register your event on our website, you’ll receive a free World Animal Day logo flag and a colourful dog bandana to help raise awareness.

We’ve made it easy for you to participate with a range of free toolkits and resources on our website, packed with ideas and advice to help you make an impact on October 4.

And don’t forget – follow us on social media for the latest updates, including our upcoming design-a-mug contest!

Thank you for being part of this global movement. Your passion and actions make a huge difference. Let’s come together this World Animal Day and show the world that by saving animals, we are also saving the planet.

If you missed last year’s World Animal Day, catch up here.
