World Animal Day and COVID-19
The global outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is impacting upon each and every one of us in unprecedented ways, with the position changing daily around the world.
As you have visited the World Animal Day website, it’s safe to say that you are an animal lover and likely to celebrate this special day, on or around October 4.
At Naturewatch Foundation, the charity behind World Animal Day, the safety of our team, volunteers, their families and the wider community is our highest priority and we are taking all necessary steps, as given by the UK Government, to protect them.
One thing you can be sure of is that, with the help of today’s amazing technology, our team will still be working hard to improve the lives of animals throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Of course, this includes raising awareness and encouraging participation in celebrating World Animal Day on, or around, October 4 this year.
Start thinking about how you will get involved this year…
If you have some spare time at the moment, why not start thinking about how you will get involved in World Animal Day this year. The website Get Involved section includes hundreds of ideas regardless of budget and manpower available and you’ll be inspired by events that have been organised previously.
Of course, it’s hard to know whether we’ll have emerged from the other side of the COVID-19 pandemic by October so, to be on the safe side, you could start planning an online action to get the ball rolling towards honouring World Animal Day. However, you might also wish to consider putting some preliminary plans in place for a more adventurous activity that could be finalised quickly if circumstances in your country allow.
Innovative, online ideas to celebrate World Animal Day…
We’ll be sending an email to everyone soon which will include a few online suggestions that we’ve come up with. However, the more ideas we have the better so, if you think of an innovative, online idea that could be replicated elsewhere, please let us know about it by sending an email to info@worldanimalday.org.uk and we’ll share it with the rest of the world.
One thing we are sure of is that, the current situation will encourage new approaches to campaigning and interaction being developed, which could lead the way to increased international collaboration in celebrating World Animal Day in years to come.
If you’re looking for something more to do…
We’d love you to help raise awareness of World Animal Day and encourage more animal lovers to get involved in celebrating this special day. Please use all the online tools available to you for this purpose. We’re happy for you to use text from the website and resources, but please include a link to www.worldanimalday.org.uk.
On behalf of World Animal Day, we wish to offer you and your loved ones our very best wishes for your health and wellbeing during this time of uncertainty.
